mavs win

The Mavericks were not supposed to get past the first round of playoffs. Well they took a big step forward yesterday. I've had season tickets for several years now and it never gets better than during the playoffs. I hope they keep playing hard and suprise all the "experts". As you can see most of the crowd was a little excited.

a few more shots of my trip to Boston

Monday, April 13, 2009

Johnny Wommack is an old friend I've known since anesthesia school. He goes to the Boston area a few weeks each year to work. I told him last January, when he went back I was going along so he could be my tour guide. We met at DFW airport after he flew in from Texarkana. The weekend started off with a whimper when they cancelled our flight. We got on the next flight, but didn't get to sit next to each other. Johnny had reservations at a restaurant for 8:00, we got there at 8:20. We did eat well all weekend, between the clam chowder and lobster I gained 5 pounds.
Boston is and interesting city. It's grown around historical buildings and sites to be a modern busy city. The public transportation has to be good because there is little to no place to park. Good thing Johnny was driving, since many streets were one way and none of them were straight. You end up curving around and missing where you want to get to. One night we could see our hotel half a block away, but we drove another mile to get to it. We walked to most sites or caught the subway. Friday we went on a tour of Finway Park. It seams like everybody is a Redsox fan. The park is pretty but I would not be able to sit in the original seat sections behind home plate, they are so small my knees will not fit.
We played tourists and went to Paul Reveres house and grave. Saturday we got a car and drove to Glouscher. The little towns we drove thru were quite interesting. We got to visit Harvard and MIT. There are so many colleges here I would hate to be here when school starts with all the students arriving at once. Sunday we took a nice drive out to see Concord and Lexington, were the revolution started. Waldens Pond is just down the road an will look better when the trees finally bloom. It is still cold up there right now. When bicyclists rode by in 38 degree weather I didn't miss riding at all, they looked real cold.
The weekend was a great trip with and old friend to a place I've wanted to see. I hope to have more trips to see friends a neat places.

I have been blessed to get wonderful care by the nurses and staff at Texas Oncology. They are always so friendly and warm. I know they have a tough job dealing with cancer patients, but they always have a smile. These are the people you never want to see, but once you do, you feel connected by their good nature. I am at ease when I go get my chemo, because of these wonderful people. I can not say thank you enough to them.

Kayla's support

I feel like an idiot today. When I found out the girl my nephew is dating, went to Rome to run a marathon. She wore my picture on the back of her jersey. The whole trip was to raise money for Team in Training. They are part of the Leukemia and Myeloma Society which raises money for research. Kayla only got to run a few miles of the marathon because of an injury to her leg. She sent me photos taken in Rome, but I didn't notice the picture of me on back of her jersey. Last place I thought I would see me is on the back of beautiful girl in Rome. I can not thank her enough for the honor she bestowed on me. Kayla is a wonderful person that I am honored to know.

another chemo day

I went to chemotherapy again today. I go in around 2:00 , have blood drawn then go get an IV. It takes about 20 minutes to get the Decadron to drip in without giving me "ants in my pants." If they give it too fast thats how it feels. Then I get Valcade as an IV push. Since I have not lost any more hair than when I started and I don't have any nausea, I can't say it is so bad.
My blood levels are getting back to near normal. They did a bone marrow biopsy Monday and the results are not in. The doctors will ajust my medicines if the results don't show enough progress. This is to get me ready for my stem cell transplant in May or June.
I will post again with pictures of all the nurses pictures when I can. They are all so nice to all the patients there. It would be hard to see patients all day that were all facing cancer.
Love you all
Bob

Getting Started

This is something new for me. I have had so many friends getting hold of me lately I wanted to share some of my trials and tribulations with all of you. Anyone that does not know it I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma the day after Christmas 2008. I am on chemo right now, with the idea I will have a stem cell transplant in May or April. That will hopefully put me in remission long enough for them to find a cure. I plan to fight this as best I can.

With all the cards, letters and phone cards I have not had time to get back with all the people I want to. It is touching to hear from so many people who have touched my life. I cannot begin to thank all of you for what you have ment in my life. I once got an e-mail that describe a friend as someone you haven't seen in years, but when you get together it's like you have'nt been apart but a day.

I hope to put pictures on here to share the wonderful times with friends and family I will be having in the future. My neice Katie has a blog like this that inspired me. She is in Marselle France on a mission trip, sending pictures of wonderful adventures in Europe. My basketball buddy Antoino went to China on business and set up a blog. I want to show him how inspiring he has been to me. I have enjoyed both of thier stories and pictures that I wanted to share my life with others.

I hope this will find all and any who are interested. I hope it inspires everyone to share thier life with others. I am planning a trip in two weeks, with my freind Johnny, to Boston. I hope to have pictures and stories to tell when I get back.

Wish me luck with getting this blog out to everyone.
